Globally Renowned Caracalla Dance Theatre to Bring Special Golden Jubilee Tribute Show to Cultural Foundation

Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation is set to welcome back the international artistic talents of The Caracalla Dance Theatre with a new performance titled A Journey from Abu Dhabi Along the Silk Road. The inspiring show, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is a special tribute to the UAE’s Golden Jubilee and will take place on 3, 4, and 5 December at 8pm, at the Cultural Foundation’s Theatre.

“The Caracalla Dance Theatre performers will bring their world-leading talents to Cultural Foundation’s stage to celebrate a melting pot of nationalities and the symbolic relevance of the Silk Road, which once connected different worlds – an important role the UAE plays today,” said Reem Fadda, Cultural Foundation Director. “This special edition of the dance musical drama will also celebrate and honour the UAE’s Golden Jubilee, and we encourage the community to come and enjoy this what is sure to be a spectacular showcase of the performing arts, providing a fun night out for the whole family.”

This production, which will be presented by Abu Dhabi Culture, is a newly-adapted version of Sailing the Silk Road and will feature a star-studded cast of renowned singers and actors, guest dance companies from China and India, as well as actors from the UAE and Emirati heritage groups. The cultural fusion of performers from around the world will be complemented by dynamic scenography, colourful costumes and an original music score.

The inspiration behind the theme comes from the great historical importance of the famed Silk Road, which brought together a myriad of people from diverse cultures, paving the way for a new era of coexistence and human development.

The highly-anticipated performances will take place at the Cultural Foundation, a community centre which works to foster cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange in the UAE community. In parallel to the performances, Cultural Foundation and Caracalla Dance Theatre are teaming up to offer a series dance workshops to the public till 7 December. All workshops will be held at Cultural Foundation and are free to attend and participate in.

• Contemporary Modern dance is a free style of expressive dance that combines elements of several genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. This popular form has grown to become one of the dominating performance genres.

• Creative Dance for Children explores all styles of dance via a playful approach in a creative environment. Youngsters are taught the basic ballet guidelines and proper stretching techniques. They also are exposed to various rhythms of music and instructed in simple dance choreographies.

• Hip Hop/Funky Jazz is a sub-genre of jazz characterised by stylised moves. The integration of funk, soul and R&B music results in the creation of this dance genre’s wide and creative style spectrum, performed to the latest mainstream music hits.

• Created by Maestro Abdel Halim Caracalla, Caracalla Style Dance is a unique amalgam of western dance disciplines and oriental cultural identity. The signature style of the Caracalla Dance Theatre is both fluid and energetic in its graceful art form as well as beautiful and unique in its expression.
